I seem to be unable to reach either Facebook or Dropbox this morning. Tried rebooting everything and most sites work but some timeout. Right now Facebook does not respond to ping. Should I just wait it out?

Ha! I'm also in Pacifica and I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. Had a brief outage last week but seemed to be fine until today.

Me too. Tried to contact them but it's a long wait. Twitter is lighting up like mad saying they're having problems.

Yep, same here in Minneapolis... Very inconsistent page loads starting ~1 hour ago.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one, at least!

Same here. Started a little bit after 1pm EST. Pandora and Reddit are either slow to load or doesn't load at all.

Same problem as you, I thought it might even be my computer but decided to check just to be sure... Maybe one of the peering partners connection has a issue. I can reach schwab.com fine but not androidcentral.com, fidelity.com, facebook.com for example. Microsoft.com is also fine.

Having issues here in Miami, FL. So far going through a VPN is solving the issue.

EDIT 3:34PM EST: The issue seems to be resolved on my end. Turned off my VPN connection and everything is back to normal for now.

Yes. Not a lot of choice. It appears to be a Level3 issue (may have started in the Chicago area, but that has not been validated (it may have simply first been reported there)).

And when an ISP as big as Level3 goes sideways, traffic may find new ways to attempt to avoid the issues, which can overload other links, resulting in multiple slownesses even for other peers/transit. It may be interesting to see what Level3 eventually posts as a cause.

I was having the same issue with Facebook and when running a speedtest here on DSLR, it was showing I had horrible ping to some sites closeby but good ping to some sites further out. It seems to be correcting itself slowly.

Yeah, it definitely looks like Level 3 is the root cause of this: »downdetector.com/status/level3

I wonder if this has anything to do with Centurylink buying Level3 this week and Level3 doing Comcast IPv6 traffic. There is a huge Centurylink outage in Texas and the West coast. Can anyone post a IPv4 tracert?

That tracert shows the issue only seems to be effecting IPv6 through Level3. Can anyone confirm if problem exist with IPv6 disabled? If your seeing IPv6 in a tracert, then you have it enabled in your router. To find out how to disable it, google " disable IPv6". That should correct the problem until Comcast can fix their IPv6 routing.

Comcast Users Report Massive Nationwide Internet Outage

According to DownDetector.com, and numerous twitter complaints, Comcast's internet service, Xfinity, is suffering an outage across the country. DownDetector.com shows XFinity internet being down around the United States, mostly on the east coast, but also in in large west coast cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Seattle. So far, online reports don't suggest that TV service or home phones are affected.

Comcast customer care first confirmed the outage at 1:36pm: “Some customers are having issues with their XFINITY Internet service. We apologize & appreciate your patience while we work to fix.”

The total credit process on your account is $7.98 for todays outage. If the outage will take more that 24 hours, additional credit will be applied. My other account was $2.33 for internet only.

Yes except CenturyLink already started as Qwest so they had a IP backbone and they later acquired Savvis which owns one of the big 3 backbones formerly known as Cable & Wireless USA and InternetMCI before that so it's unlikely they didn't know how to run a backbone. More likely, they can't integrate the different backbones properly.
